Why "myOstrich"?
This story starts with Tim and his desire to hike the Apalachian Trail. This is a 2,100-mile trail that begins in Georgia, and ends in Maine. Being an outdoorsman most of his life, hiking the entire trail was one of his goals on his list of "things to accomplish".
After 3-years of planning and preparation, he set off for Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, Wendy, on a very cold and snowy March day. After arriving in Altanta, the two enjoyed several hours of driving around the beautiful country outside of town. They came across a farm with a roadside stand, that only had one thing inside -- a machine that looked like a candy bar dispenser. However, instead of candy bars, it had a wide variety of packaged, dried, Ostrich meat!
Intrigued, they bought several varieties of the packets for Tim to take with him on his hike. As it turns out, the Ostrich jerky was fantastic! Tim ended up sharing his new treasures with other hikers on that trip, and during his 6-months on the trail, he thought that starting up an Ostrich Farm would be a good business to get into.
He finished the hike in September, 65-pounds lighter, and a passion to learn all about the Ostrich business. He bought several books on the subject and read them from cover-to-cover. Then he decided to share his idea of starting an Ostrich Farm with Wendy.
Needless to say, this didn't go over very well.
Tim and Wendy, at the time, were both full time professional engineers at a large semiconductor company. Tim's background was mechanical and computer engineering, and Wendy's was electrical engineering, marketing, and web design. Tim had been involved in the golf world on a part time basis for some time, but it had never been a full time job. However, at this point in in their professional lives, they had each put in 20+ years in the corporate world, and were definitely ready for a change.
After much discussion, they agreed to start their own online golf company. Tim jumped at the opportunity to name the company, and he chose "myOstrich Golf". As Tim will tell you, "Wendy didn't let me have my Ostrich Farm, so I got as close as I could to the big bird ... I named our company after him!"
Now you know. :)
We hope myOstrich Golf is a name you will long remember, and that we can provide you with the products and services you need to help you enjoy our shared passion.
Remember as well that at myOstrich Golf, "When it come's to golf, we don't have our heads in the sand!" |
